Welsh Ponies and Cobs in Sweden and their use in Riding Pony breeding. They make up a large part of British Riding Pony breeding, it is therefore extremely important the Welsh Breed in Sweden fully follow WP&CS Rules, as this affects the BRP Registers. Not only must the Swedish Welsh (SWF) registers be the same as the WP&CS registers, but more importantly, the Society Rules governing the entries in the stud book, must be a carbon copy of the Home Society. The way the Society is run dictates the entries in the registers. The WPCS does NOT have GRADING and so from a BRP breeding perspective we urge the SWF to fully follow Home Society rules.
None of the British Native Breeds have any form of Avelsvärdering, whether voluntary or called Grading. The Breeds keep open bloodlines ie. open market, equal opportunity, competitive breeding and competitive showing, under Home Society Rules. Grading is for Sport Horses and Sport Ponies of proven performance likely to enhance our sports capability Internationally.
Although it is recognised the Swedish Welsh has taken a brave stance by being independent from SH, we do hope they will NOT follow the path of Grading. Ponies can be Graded in a seperate Sport Pony Society. TheWPCS do however have Stallion Ratings. This is for the progeny and not for the stallions. There are 10/12 nominated shows where progeny are awarded points for placings. The stallion whose progeny have the highest number of points is Top of the Ratings for that season.
